FAQS

What types of domestic hot water systems are there?

There are really two alternative ways of heating water for use in the home. It can either be heated in anticipation of use and then stored/kept hot in a hot water storage tank, which is located centrally within the property.

Alternatively, a more efficient solution is that water can be heated on-demand for when it is required: a Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater heats water on-demand only when it is required.

How can a Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater heat water instantly?

When you turn on the hot water tap, the flow of the water starts the water heating process. When the tap is turned off, the water stops flowing, and the heating process stops.  Hence, you only use energy when you want the hot water!

What is a point-of-use water heater?

A point-of-use water heater is a water heater that heats on-demand as close as possible to the hot water outlet and it is also physically small enough to fit right near the hot water outlet/s.

What are the advantages of a point-of-use water heater?

With a point-of-use water heater, hot water comes through the tap very quickly and there’s only a short time to wait.

Saving energy and water precious water because hot water does not need to flow through the pipes over long distances.

What are the advantages of using a MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater?

The MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater is more efficient than other systems on the market, is faster to heat up, more temperature accurate, hence a more pleasurable hot water experience and safer than other older technology electric instant water heaters.

Is this new technology?

Yes. While Continuous Flow Electric Water Heaters are not new, the technology used in MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heaters is new and has been delivering hot water to users across Australia for 10 years now.

It is this revolutionary new technology that delivers these additional features and benefits:

  • Optimise System : 100% “optimisation” keeps the hot water temperature stable even if the cold water pressure drops. It also takes advantage of the incoming water temperature – the warmer the incoming water, the less energy is used to heat the water to the required temperature.
  • Small Physical Size : The small physical size and the fact that no heat is generated by the MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater allows the water heater to be installed in a small space at the point-of-use.
  • The hot water temperature is accurately maintained at the set temperature : This ranges between 20°C and a maximum of 50°C. The water temperature will not exceed 50°C
  • Low flow rate capability : The set temperature can be achieved with stability at very low flow rates – minimum 1.5 Litres per minute.
  • Market leading power options  We can supply units with power set to your needs.
  • Lowwater pressure  The technology can operate reliably even from pumped water systems and low pressure systems.
  • Martet leading flexibility   The units can be installed to supply warm and hot water for a broader range of applications than other products on the market.  When you’re looking a solution that you can’t seem to find a water heater to deliver.  Talk to us, we might just have the solution.
Can the MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater really provide an endless supply of hot water?
  • Because it heats from cold water “continuously” on-demand and does not rely on the storage of hot water.
Will I still get the hot shower I enjoy now?

Yes – provided the operational specifications are clearly understood in terms of flow rate versus the ambient water temperatures, and the MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater is installed correctly, as per the Installation Manual.

Can I use the MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater for applications other than a sink?

Yes. MicroHeat caters for differentiated centralised or point-of-use continuous flow water heating solutions.  Check out our brochures and market installations on our website.

How much money can I save?

If you are replacing a tank system you will immediately save energy and a lot, as the MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heaters only heat on demand, that is when you turn the hot water tap on.

You can get even more energy and water savings when you install the unit at point-of-use.  Energy and water will be saved by reducing the hot water run (pipe length to the hot water outlet) .

Keep in mind that household heating, including water heating, accounts for approximately 30% of all domestic running costs – the MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater can help to reduce these costs.

Can I use a Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater system to supply hot water to my entire house?

Yes – however, to ensure the most effective solution is supplied for individual requirements, we recommend a consultation with our technical team to discuss the multiple options available to deliver the optimum benefits and savings when delivering hot water throughout your home.

Can I replace my electric storage water unit with a MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater?

Replacing an existing electric hot water storage system with MicroHeat continuous flow heating service is a highly efficient option, it will save you both energy and space.

There are certain electrical/plumbing aspects that need to be considered.

A phone call to MicroHeat can assist in clarifying this, and/or an assessment can be made by your preferred licenced Electrician/Plumber.

Will the MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater work with all types of water?

The MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater is designed to work with mains pottable water and pumped systems, there is some consideration to be taken into account when heating from rainwater.  Please give us a call to discuss the various options or send us an email.

MicroHeat can supply Continuous Flow Electric Water Heaters that can operate with water outside the normal drinking water range where water supplies are considered hard water/pour water due to high levels of minerals in the water.   Please give us a call to discuss the various options or send us an email.

What limitations does the MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater have?

The ability to heat water dynamically while it is flowing is directly related to the flow rate of the water, and the increase in cold water temperature required. Thus the heating ability will be dependent on the electrical power supplied that may be inadequate, and may need to be upgraded.  Please refer our brochures for all the details around whnat solutions would be best for your application.

How do I determine the most suitable MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater model for my home?

MicroHeat caters for centralised or point-of-use continuous flow water heating solutions. In either instance, we recommend a consultation with our technical team to discuss the various options and opportunities for energy and water savings.

Is the MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater expensive to install?

MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heaters are competitively priced and, when installed at the point-of-use, eliminate the need for costly hot water plumbing reticulation (piping).

Tempering valves – used in most traditional hot water service installations – are not required – this also achieves a reduction in cost.

Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician and a qualified plumber – prices vary per installer.

The overall cost of installation depends on:

  • Electrical power capability of the establishment
  • Proposed/existing plumbing arrangements
  • Accessibility at the selected installation site

The MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater must be electrically hard wired to the switchboard.

Does the MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater plug into a standard 3 pin plug or GPO?

No – a MicroHeat Continuous Flow Electric Water Heater must be electrically hard wired to the switchboard. Please consult our technical team or an electrician for details on electrical wiring requirements.
